Jacob Lawrence – The Legend of John Brown + Other Works
To mark the 100-year anniversary of Jacob Lawrence’s birth, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery is exploring the history and future of our space through a series of highly participatory exhibitions.
We would like to invite everyone to our current exhibition, Jacob Lawrence: The Legend of John Brown + Other Works, as a unique opportunity to experience the work of one of the University’s historically preeminent professors and change-agents. Through Lawrence’s mastery of various printmaking techniques, the artist highlights the life and contribution of abolitionist John Brown in a 22-part serigraph series, as well as stand-alone etchings and lithograph works. This exhibition closes March 4th.
In our current socio-cultural and political climate, Lawrence’s work reminds us of our shared history and mirrors deeply-rooted social values that live on today. Through his work, Jacob Lawrence offers a visual confrontation of our history and offers a space to reimagine the future.
Tuesday–Friday: 10am – 5pm
Saturday: 1pm – 5pm
